 | Award Letter?After you receive your Award Letter, you can apply for your Stafford Loan. If you have established eligibility for the Stafford Student Loan and you would like to apply. APPLY FOR STAFFORD LOAN: The Stafford Loan Process You have been awarded Federal Stafford Loan funds. If you wish to borrow these funds, follow these instructions and the instructions from the Texas Guaranteed Student Loan website. This is the only manner in which you may apply for this loan. The paper application process is no longer available. |
Things to know before you get started...
Loans by Web is intended to be self-explanatory. However, the following information may help you with the process.
- You should allow 20 minutes to complete the loan application process.
- The website is available seven days a week from 2:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. (Exception - 12 noon to 12:30 p.m.)
- To complete the application, you'll need to list two references, including the person's relationship to you, their address, and telephone number.
- Read each screen BEFORE answering questions.
- To restart the process, select "Return to STUDENT APPLICATION Menu". Otherwise, choose "CONTINUE".
- If you do not have a lender, you may select one from below or do a search of lenders on the website.
- If you do not wish to borrow your full eligibility, you may reduce the amounts.
- You will need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader on your computer.
Getting Started with Loans by Web
Ready to get started? Here's what you do...
- Go to : https://lbw.tgslc.org/. (Note the "S" after HTTP). This is a SECURE site. You will be asked to provide your social security # and date of birth.
- Once you are logged in, you will enter the "Main Menu" page of the website. You will select the option to "Complete Loan Award".
- The next screen will list the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center name along with your loan award and a "Begin" button. Please click on the "Begin" button.
- You will be taken to a page to complete an ENTRANCE COUNSELING test before you can proceed with accepting your loan award. This is a Federal Requirement. (Please note you will be directed to TG's website to complete the entrance counseling test. You will also be given a confirmation # once you have completed the test. This is only confirmation that you have completed the entrance test and not your loan award.) Please continue with the Loans By Web process.
- Make sure all of your address information is accurate and also include information for two (2) references.
- Choose a LENDER. If you have borrowed a Stafford Loan before, you should use the SAME lender or at least, choose the same SERVICER.
- Carefully read the screen that reflects your loan award amount, loan period and type of loan eligibility. Once you have reviewed your loan award, select the "Submit" button.
- Submit the application by clicking "Guarantee" button. If the loan is guaranteed, a page will appear with the message: "Congratulations, your loan has been guaranteed." If the loan application is rejected, a page will appear listing the errors found. Print this page and contact TG's Loan Guarantee team at 800.252.9743.
- If you are a first time borrower or borrowing from a new lender, you must sign and date one copy of your Master Promissory Note (MPN) and mail it (front page and back page) to your lender at the address provided. If you choose the e-signature option, please note you will need your 4-digit PIN (FAFSA) from the Department of Education to complete the e-signature process. The second copy is for your records.
NOTE: SERIAL MPNs
If you have completed a loan application through Loans By Web for a previous loan, and you are using the same lender, you do not need to print out, sign and mail the MPN to your lender. The new loan will be added to the original note.
