The Electron
Microscopy Center was established by the Department of Cell Biology
and Biochemistry to support the Research and Clinical needs of the Texas
Tech Health Sciences Center and the University Medical Center, as well
as the South Plains Medical Community. The TTUHSC EM Center is certified
by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and accredited by the
Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) of the U.S. Department
of Health & Human Services, and is staffed by a highly qualified
EM Technician. It provides regular biopsy support to the University
Medical Center, Covenant Health System, and Midland Memorial Hospital.
The facilities are available to provide TEM and SEM support, as well
as X-Ray Micro-Analysis services, to all departments within the Texas
Tech community.
The
1500 sq. ft. Electron Microscopy Center was constructed with room
for growth to provide for all current as well as future EM/Imaging
requirements. The facility is constructed with isolated slabs designed
to eliminate detrimental external vibrations to the instrumentation,
and has been certified as free of electro-magnetic interference.
The EM Center is adjacent to the Department of Medical Photography
and Graphic Services which provides immediate EM imagery support.
The
Electron Microscopy Center is located in Room BC200 of the Health
Sciences Center, and is open Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM.
All members of the Texas Tech community are invited to visit the facilities
at any time or call (806) 743-1366 for information.
