"High and fast in the West Texas skies"
Hawks and eagles often remain aloft for hours without effort, using rising currents of air for support. In the sport of soaring, pilots try to emulate these graceful flights in high-performance sailplanes or gliders. The Caprock Soaring Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the pursuit and promotion of the sport. We operate out of Littlefield Municipal Airport, some 40 miles NW of Lubbock, in West Texas. Our club has been the sponsor of numerous regional and national soaring contests over the last fourteen years. Indeed, the South Plains and the area around Littlefield are famous for their world-class soaring conditions. We conduct flight operations most weekends, weather permitting. For visitors, one-day memberships are available that include a familiarization flight. Read the recent article about club member Werner Birkelbach from the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
