Tommy Bartley is the Manager of Environmental Safety for Safety Services here at the Health Sciences Center. Prior to this position he was employed by the City of Lubbock as the senior inspector and trainer for the Health Department, and then as an environmental compliance specialist for the City's Environmental Compliance Department. Tommy is responsible for indoor air quality, Biomedical and chemical waste disposal, pest control, food safety, oversight of the crematory and pathological incinerators, and keeps us in compliance with The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, EPA,and other Federal, State and local regulations. Tommy's duties also expand to the regional campuses located in Amarillo, Midland/Odessa, and El Paso.

Tommy has been working in the environmental health and safety field for 30 years. He is a certified pest control operator with the Texas Structural Pest Control Board as well as the Texas Department of State Health Services. He is a Licensed Professional Sanitarian with the State of Texas and also has a national certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Professional Sanitarian. Tommy has an additional national certification as a Certified Food Safety Professional and Registered Trainer. He also holds a Class A License in Municipal Solid Waste and a Hazardous Waste Operator certification. Tommy teaches food safety and sanitation classes in town and is a food safety instructor for several companies throughout the country. Tommy also inspects and provides training to restaurants on the side and was the person who started KCBD TV's "Food For Thought" program.

Tommy received his BA degree in communications from Texas Tech University in 1975 and recently received a Masters degree in entomology from Tech. He is a Past President of the Texas Environmental Health Association and has served in various capacities for that group for 15 years. Tommy is also a member of the National Environmental Health Association and is active in a number of other professional organizations.
