Return to Staff

Toni Dennison is a lifelong Lubbock resident. After earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Texas Tech University, Denison first came to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in June of 2002 working as a Medical Research Technician in the Department of Cell Biology and Biochemistry. While working as a research technician, Denison expanded her knowledge of molecular biology techniques and skills. In particular, she used mouse models to study proteins involved in messenger RNA processing in male germ cells. She published this work in the Journal, Biology of Reproduction. During this time she also worked towards a Master of Science degree in Anatomy and Physiology Education.

In the spring of 2006, Denison became the Manager of Laboratory Safety for the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Her responsibilities include planning, developing and overseeing, goals and procedures for the laboratory safety program of the Health Sciences Center, including regional campuses in Amarillo and El Paso. Denison oversees laboratory safety issues including ensuring the proper training of laboratory personnel, maintenance of an institutional laboratory compliance manual, ensuring proper functioning of lab safety equipment, and assisting in the development of institutional operating policies. Denison works closely with the Institutional Biohazards Committee performing laboratory safety inspections and issuing Laboratory Biohazards licenses to each laboratory in order to ensure compliance of all Health Sciences Center laboratories with any applicable regulations or policies.

Meanwhile, Denison maintains part-time joint employment with the Cell Biology and Biochemistry department as part of the faculty administering the Clinical Gross Anatomy course to the School of Medicine at Lubbock.
