Victor Means has been Director of the Department of Safety Services since February 1, 2006. Prior to this position, he served as Interim Director of Safety Services from May 6, 2004 through January 31, 2006 and as Manager, Radiation Safety from December 1, 2000 through May 5, 2004. Victor is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the Department of Safety Services, providing leadership for department staff, and advice and guidance to the administration, faculty, staff, and student populations of TTUHSC. He has oversight responsibility for the regional campus safety offices located in Amarillo, El Paso, and Midland/Odessa.

Victor has more than 26 years experience with ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, and serves as the Radiation Safety Officer and Laser Safety Officer for the institution. He has more than 20 years experience as a safety generalist, including experience in the construction industry and the oilfield service industry. Victor has more than 18 years experience in hazardous materials transportation safety and management, including transport of radioactive materials and explosives.

Victor received his BS degree in Engineering Technology (Mechanical Specialty) from Texas A&M University in 1980, and received his MBA (Management Concentration) from Texas Tech University in 2004. He holds the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) credential and is currently pursuing the Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential. Victor received the NSC Advanced Safety Certificate in 1993 and is active in a number of professional organizations, including ASSE, HPS, ISCD, LIA, ASLMS, CSHEMA, and NSC. He serves on several institutional committees, including the Radiation Safety Committee, Environment of Care Committee, Infection Control Committee, and the Personnel Health/Medical Surveillance Committee.
