Rotation: Night Float (VAMC)
Site:
- Amarillo VAMC
Instructors:
- VA General Internal Medicine faculty
Description:
- This rotation is very similar to the Northwest Texas Hospital Night Float rotation (see that page for details), with the following main differences:
- Given the fact that the number of admissions per night is lower and the total inpatient census is lower than at NWTH, the Senior Resident is responsible for both the new admissions through the Emergency Department (Life Support Unit) and coverage of teaching service inpatient problems during the night. The PGY-I resident (intern) is allowed to go home at 9:00 PM or when duties around that time have been completed.
- The site of check-out is the Kollmar Conference Room.
- The type of patients are those typical of a VAMC, predominantly older males.
