Maternal and Reproductive Health Issues in Uganda

Dr. Miriam Nakalembe is a practicing OB/GYN in Kampala, Uganda. Since 2000, she has served as a lecturer in the Department of OB/GYN at the Medical School of Makerere University, Uganda. She also conducts research in cervical cancer prevention and is pursuing a PhD on the same topic. Dr. Nakalembe is passionate about and committed to making a difference in the health of women in Africa. November 11-15, 2012, she will present some results of her research in Atlanta at the annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.
During this presentation, Dr. Nakalembe will highlight maternal and reproductive health issues in Uganda. The presentation will give an overview of the maternal and reproductive health situation and focus on emergency obstetric care and the burden of cervical cancer in women. She will also share a selection of personal stories and experiences. The presentation is tailored for a general audience.
After the presentation, an additional Q&A and meet-and-greet will be held in the same room from 1:00-2:00 pm for those who have additional questions or wish to visit with Dr. Nakalembe one-on-one.
This presentation will not be linked to the additional TTUHSC campuses; however, it will be recorded for future viewing on the OIA website.
