Attention: Users of Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod
Attention: Users of Apple iPhone/iPad/iPod devices utilizing iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1 at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center
The most recent system updates for Apple devices (utilizing iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1) are incompatible with Microsoft Exchange 2010, the current institutional exchange environment. Microsoft has confirmed that this incompatibility is affecting Microsoft Exchange servers world-wide. This incompatibility may result in loss of all Exchange 2010 email and calendaring services at TTUHSC.
We have been working with Microsoft and Apple on all proposed solutions to this issue. However, the only current institutional solution to this issue is to block Exchange 2010 services to Apple devices running iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1 in order to continue Exchange services for the institution. This means that customers using iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1 will not be able to access Exchange 2010 services such as email, calendars, or receive calendar alerts using the built in iPhone applications.
TTUHSC will begin blocking iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1 from accessing the institutional Exchange 2010 servers immediately and continue until Apple releases an update to the iOS that corrects the issue.
Devices using earlier versions of iOS are not affected by this action. Only devices running iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1 will be blocked. If you have an Apple iPhone, iPod, or iPad that connects to the institutional Exchange 2010 DO NOT UPGRADE to 6.1 or 6.1.1 or you will be blocked.
We estimate that over 3,000 devices on the institutional network will be affected, since users may be using multiple devices it is difficult to predict how many users will be affected.
Affected users will still be able to check their institutional Exchange 2010 email using WebMail on any web browser on their iOS device. To access your institutional account with this method, point your browser to mail.ttuhsc.edu and log in with your eRaider credentials.
We regret any inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured that we are working with Apple and Microsoft to resolve this issue at the earliest possible time. We know Apple is actively working on a solution and we will keep you updated as information is made available.
