On May 27, 2008, Dr. Alice M. Young, representing the SPAARC Joint Initiative Research Grant, made a presentation to a State legislative committee comprised on representatives Warren Chisum (R – Pampa) and Carl Isett (R – Lubbock). The focus of the talk revolved around the goals of the initiative grant. Also in attendance was Texas Tech Chancellor, the Hon. Kent R. Hance. According to Dr. Young, the presentation was well received and elicited questions from the representatives and Chancellor Hance on the problems of binge drinking in West Texas.
