New Construction at the TTUHSC Lubbock Campus

TTUHSC Expansion Project

Extending our Strengths

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) broke ground in June 2017 for new buildings that will bring additional opportunities for education and research initiatives plus create a more seamless campus experience for students and visitors.

The $85.9 million project will consist of three parts: a north expansion that will create two new buildings north of the existing TTUHSC building, a west expansion that will add additional facilities to the existing TTUHSC building and the creation of a boulevard entrance to the campus.

Building a Legacy

The north expansion will include two buildings to increase productivity in academic, professional and research affairs. The University Center building will have 60,000 GSF to support institutional initiatives, program growth and academic changes.

To provide for growth of the medical academic campus, the project will install a new boulevard entrance to the campus at Fourth Street by creating a signalized intersection.

In addition to new structures, the overall project will include replacement parking and upgrades to the infrastructure in support of the new buildings and street access. The combination of the additions will provide accessibility and connectivity while promoting the use of facilities by the entire campus community.

Innovative Education

The West Expansion will supplement the existing TTUHSC building with an additional 125,000 gross square feet (GSF) by connecting the west side of the existing TTUHSC building to the Preston Smith Library of the Health Sciences. The space will provide educational and research facilities for anatomical sciences and will include an expansive, state-of-the-art gross anatomy laboratory.

New Discoveries

The second building at the north of the campus will be a free-standing conference center with 12,500 GSF, which will provide daily, on-site conferencing space for the adjacent University Center building and the existing Academic Classroom Building.

Growing Together

The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents Facilities Committee approved the project on Oct. 13, 2016. Tuition Revenue Bonds approved by the 84th Legislature funds cover all construction costs, which will provide an opportunity to leverage donor gifts for a presidential scholarship endowment, one of three funding priorities for the Campaign for Your Life, Our Purpose.

The Campaign for Your Life, Our Purpose seeks to advance initiatives in education while providing better health outcomes locally and globally. The campaign will conclude in 2019, TTUHSC’s 50th Anniversary, and will give scholarships to assist students on all campuses. Along with scholarship opportunities, campaign contributions will support TTUHSC research and projects in conjunction with other institutions within the Texas Tech University System.
