Colorectal Cancer Screening Project
Educational Programs
Educational Opportunities in Flexible Sigmoidoscopy for Physicians
The project volunteer faculty physicians offer certification of flexible sigmoidoscopy to resident physicians planning a career in primary care. Training is in accordance with the American Gastroenterologic Association guidelines for training in this procedure. Physicians completing training receive a certificate of completion for purposes of credentialling at their respective future practice facility. Project faculty are involved in educational research pertaining to physician attitudes toward colorectal cancer screening and educational methodology in endoscopic training.
Educational Opportunities in Endoscopy for Nurses and Medical Assistants
Under the guidance of the volunteer faculty physicians, salaried project staff are involved in research regarding patient satisfaction scores throughout the screening process at all the project facilities. In the future, the project hopes to broaden the educational opportunities offered to endoscopic staff and establish a core curriculum. To date, the project has educated over 17 C.N.A.s, and M.A.s regarding core outpatient endoscopic skills.
