Diabetes Program Can Facilitate National Certification Status For Healthcare Professionals
A series of diabetes education programs over the next few months in El Paso can help healthcare professionals who treat and educate diabetics become more proficient in their care and assist in preparing for the nationally recognized designation, the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) exam.
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center's two-day programs, to be held in February, April, May, June and August, are targeted at all nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, physician assistants, physicians, social workers, and others. Approximately 20-24 continuing education credits are available through this program.
Participants will learn the latest information on diabetes, become familiar with CLAS standards and health literacy, as well as develop a business plan to establish a diabetes program.
According to several statistics done on diabetes in El Paso, 40 percent of the population has it. The last study also showed that perhaps another 40 percent of the population has it and doesn't know it or they have not yet been diagnosed.
Dates for the program, which cost $350, is February 20 - 21, 27 - 28; April 23 - 24; April 30 - May 1, June 18 - 19, 25 - 26 and August 13 - 14, and 20 - 21.
