The Student Registered Nurse Anesthetist Program consists of two phases: Phase 1 requirements - 12 months of classroom instruction at Texas Christian University. Upon successful completion of Phase 1, students enter Phase 2 which consists of 16 months of clinical education experience. Students will perform two month rotations at Texas Tech University HSC-El Paso, or in some instances students can stay here for up to six months of their clinical curriculum.
Texas Tech University HSC-El Paso received accreditation as a clinical education site for the Student Nurse Anesthetist Program on February 1, 2005, and will be a Main Clinical Site on August 1, 2006. Student objectives include supervised experience in patient assessment, experience in preparing drugs and equipment, and administer supervised anesthesia. The main objective for this affiliation is to train Certified Nurse Anesthetists so that hopefully they will remain in this city and surrounding areas.
