Residency Program Director

Brian K. Nelson , M.D., FACEP

Dr. Brian K. Nelson, Professor, has been with Texas Tech Health Sciences Center , Department of Emergency Medicine, for 20 years and helped to initiate our residency, the first civilian Emergency Medicine residency in Texas .

During the past 20 years, he has served as Chairman for 11 years, Program Director for 6 years and Research Director. Effective June 1, 2003, Dr. Nelson stepped into the Program Director's shoes once again. Dr. Nelson has been a member of all the academic EM associations and has served on the Board of Directors & President of TCEP. During the time when Dr. Nelson was Chairman, he acquired a masters degree in Statistics and Research Design in order to improve his teaching and research. Dr. Nelson has a desire to ensure that every student and resident be exposed to the widest range of educational opportunities and challenges during their rotation/residency in Emergency Medicine so they may provide the best care for all patients throughout their professional career.

In his spare time, Dr. Nelson enjoys making wine and scuba diving with his wife, Dr. Deborah Nelson, DVM.
