CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Residency Program Presentation
The following is an overview of the clinical experiences obtained during the four years of training.
PGY 1Our residents rotate through different medical services. The experiences obtained provide a strong base knowledge and skills in primary medicine and preventive care. The resident obtains basic skills in the management of uncomplicated obstetric and gynecologic patients including performing cesarean sections. The rotations include:
- Family and community medicine (1 month)
- Internal medicine (1 month)
- Breast clinic (1 month)
- Surgical intensive care unit-SICU (1 month)
- Emergency medicine (1 month)
- Obstetrics (2 months)
- Gynecology (3 months)
- Ultrasound (1 month)
- Labor and Delivery (1 month)
PGY 2
During the second year the resident develops progressively more responsibilities. They are finally "in charge" of the labor and delivery unit with constant faculty supervision. There is exposure to office gynecologic procedures. The rotations include:
- Labor and delivery (5 months)
- Gynecology (4 months)
- Obstetrics (2 months)
- Ultrasound (1 month)
PGY 3
The residents obtain more experience in gynecologic surgery. They attend subspecialty and reproductive endocrinology clinics. They assume a more active role in the supervision of medical students and junior residents. They function as chief residents in the Labor and Delivery unit. The rotations include:
- Obstetrics (3 months)
- Labor and delivery (3 months)
- Gynecology (5 months)
- Endocrinology and infertility (1 month)
PGY 4
Our chief residents function as leaders and consultants. They refine their management and surgical skills including treatment for gynecologic oncology conditions. They directly supervise junior residents and medical students. They help with administrative duties including creating schedules for night call and rotations. The rotations include:
- Gynecology Oncology (3 months)
- Gynecology (5 months)
- Obstetrics (1 months)
- Labor and delivery (3 months)
