Bahij S. Nuwayhid, M.D., PhD
Professor and Regional Chair
Maternal Fetal Specialist
Professor and Regional Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. He received his undergraduate and medical degree from the American University of Beirut, Beirut, Lebanon. He did his residency training in obstetrics & gynecology and fellowship in reproductive physiology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and the University of California at Los Angeles, respectively. He received his PhD in physiology and biophysics from the University of Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi. Dr. Nuwayhid is the recipient of the Public Health Service Research Career Development Award.
Jose Gonzalez, M.D.
Professor
Maternal Fetal Specialist
Professor, Director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. He completed medical school and residency training at the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as in Maternal Fetal Medicine. He is also a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer. Dr. Gonzalez has received the National Faculty Award, Distinguished Professor Award and the Best Faculty Teacher Award. His areas of expertise include high risk pregnancy, diabetes and obstetric ultrasonography.
Harvey Greenberg, M.D.
Associate Professor
Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. Dr. Greenberg received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University in New York and his medical degree from State University of New York School of Medicine. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology. Dr. Greenberg received the "Friends of Women's Health" Award, the TTUHSC "Dedication to Resident Education and Patient Care" Award, Armed Forces District Chairman's Award for Best Clinical Research paper, American Cancer Society Clinical Fellow and the New York State Regents Scholarship and Scholar Incentive Award. Dr. Greenberg is involved in the management of gynecology malignancies, complicated pelvic surgeries, teaching and research.
Sanja Plavsic Kupesic, M.D., Ph.D.
Visiting Professor
Visiting Professor with dual faculty appointments in the OB/GYN and Radiology Departments at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Kupesic is the head of the Ultrasound Unit in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She obtained her medical degree in 1987, Master of Science in 1990 and Ph.D. degree in 1992 from the University of Zagreb in Croatia. She completed her subspecialty training in Endocrine-Infertility from the same institution. Dr. Kupesic has published extensively on 3D Ultrasound & Colored Doppler. She is acting secretary of The Fetus as a Patient Society, and has received numerous awards to include the Sir William Liley Medal in 2005.
Heidi Lyn, M.D.

Assistant Professor and Clinic Medical Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. Dr. Lyn received her Residency training at the University Of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio and her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Tx. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and was previously an Assistant Professor and Associate Clerkship Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. Dr. Lyn will be involved in research, teaching and patient care. Her special areas of interest are adolescent gynecology and abnormal bleeding.
Zuber D. Mulla, MSPH, PhD
Associate Professor
Zuber D. Mulla, MSPH, PhD, is Associate Professor and Director of Epidemiologic Research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his master's degree and doctorate in epidemiology from the University of South Florida Health Sciences Center, College of Public Health, in Tampa. Dr. Mulla's research interests include group A streptococcal necrotizing fasciitis and clinical epidemiology/patient outcomes research. He has over 30 publications in peer-reviewed clinical and public health journals. In 2002 he was a co-recipient of a productivity award from the State of Florida for assisting in the public health investigation of the Florida anthrax outbreak during the fall of 2001. Dr. Mulla also received the Outstanding Teacher Award from the El Paso Regional Campus of The University of Texas School of Public Health at Houston in May of 2004.
Scott Poehlmann, M.D.
Assistant Professor
Assistant Professor and Residency Program Director in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center-El Paso. Dr. Poehlmann received his residency training at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine and his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Before joining Texas Tech, he was on the faculty of the Austin Medical Education Programs in Austin, Texas and the University of Texas Medical Branch where he served as Clerkship Director for the Austin Campus. He has held faculty appointments at the University of Massachusetts and at Boston University as well as being briefly in private practice in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Poehlmann's academic and research interests include management of pelvic organ prolapse, obstetrical analgesia and anesthesia, induction of labor, and adult education as it pertains to medical students and resident education.
Antonio Santillan, M.D.

Gynecologic Oncology
Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. Dr. Santillan graduated with honors from Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Medical School, Monterrey, Mexico and did his residency training at the University of Oklahoma in Tulsa. He completed a Clinical Fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institution in Baltimore, Maryland and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Health Management Program at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Santillan has authored numerous clinical research articles involving management of gynecological malignancies and complicated pelvic surgeries. His areas of expertise include minimal invasive surgery for gynecological malignancies and management of complicated pelvic and abdominal surgeries for ovarian cancer. In addition, Dr. Santillan is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institution.
William Scragg, M.D.

Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Scragg has been with Texas Tech University HSC since 1976. He received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University, his graduate degree from New York Medical College and a Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology from UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Scragg is a retired Colonel of the USA Medical Corp and a Fellow of the American Fertility Society and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Claudia E. Suarez, M.D.

Assistant Professor, Assistant Residency Program Director, Director of the Gynecology Division, and Director of the Minimally Invasive Surgical Laboratory in the Department of OB/GYN at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. She received her M.D. degree and completed Fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology from the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon in Monterrey, Mexico and her Residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Suarez received numerous merit awards during her residency training at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Suarez is involved in research, teaching and patient care. Her special area of interest is Reproductive Endocrinology.
William R. Sullivan, M.D.
Associate Professor
Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. He received his medical degree from Kansas State University and his residency training from the University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Sullivan was in private practice for nine years as a Family Practitioner prior to completing a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. His areas of clinical interest are related to providing care to the indigent population and public health.
Robert W. Vera, M.D.
Associate Professor
Associate Professor and Chief of Gynecologic Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso, Texas. Dr. Vera is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas and He finished his training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 1985. From 1985 to 1989. He practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for the National Health Service Corp and was Medical Director of the Brownsville Community Health Center from 1988-1989. He returned to El Paso to teach and practice in 1989 and has been Chief of Gynecology since 1991. Dr. Vera's main areas of interest are vaginal surgery, pelvic support, pelvic prolapse surgery (to include stress urinary incontinence), laparoscopic surgery, and breast disease.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. She is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Brandl received her M.D. degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock, Texas. She did her residency training at Baylor University medical Center in Dallas, TX. Dr. Brandl is the recipient of the 5 Star Spirit Award for excellence in patient care, Baylor Resident Teaching Award, Merck Academic Excellence Award and is a member of the Alpha Chi Honor Society. Dr. Brandl's clinical and research interests are in the general areas of obstetrics and gynecology.

Luis S. Noble, M. D. is a Board Certified Associate Clinical Professor in Reproductive Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Texas Tech University HSC-El Paso. He graduated with honors from Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey Medical School, Monterrey, Mexico and did his residency at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, TX. Dr. Noble did a Research Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and a Clinical Fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, TX. He is the recipient of numerous national research awards from the Society for Gynecologic Investigation and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine for research in endometriosis. Dr. Noble's areas of interest are Endometriosis, Reproductive Surgery and Assisted Reproductive Technology.

Lizabeth Berkeley, MPH, CHES, IBCLC
Faculty Associate
Lizabeth Berkeley is a Faculty Associate and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in the OB-Gyn Department at Texas Tech University HSC-El Paso. She received her Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University in New York City in 1984, was certified as a health education specialist by the NCHEC in 1999 and became board certified by the IBLCE as a Lactation Consultant in 2001. She sees patients at the Texas Tech outpatient clinic for prenatal and postpartum education on breastfeeding, provides consultation for lactation at Thomason Hospital, and provides follow-up visits at Texas Tech. Ms. Berkeley is also a clinical instructor for medical students and residents in both OB-Gyn and Pediatrics in human lactation and breastfeeding. Her special interests are the UNICEF - WHO Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative and community awareness in the area of breastfeeding.
