Educational Awareness and Recruiting

The Office of Border Health provides Educational Awareness and Recruitment to students ranging from middle school through medical school.  Visiting faculty opportunities are provided as well.

Through our summer camps, summer experiences and research opportunities here at Texas Tech, we showcase the numerous opportunities that are available in healthcare and provide all of the students that participate in these programs with information on how diverse and rewarding the field of medicine can be.

Recognizing the need for the recruitment of young people into medicine and health care, the Office of Border Health regularly offers programs to high school students interested in such areas.  These programs strive for three goals:

1)      Expose the students to the diverse areas of health care so as to enable the student to gain first-hand information on all the elements involved of a particular career or discipline.

2)      Provide pertinent information to the students regarding the necessary educational steps essential to achieving said career aspirations.

3)      Ultimately, become part of the health-care community and reduce the shortage of under-represented minorities in medicine and health care.

The students are thus able to grasp the necessary academic and personal qualities at an early age that will make them successful in the diverse field of health care.
