Carlos Antonio Jesurun, M.D., M.M.M. is the Director of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Thomason Hospital. Presently, he is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in El Paso. Most of his time is spent in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit teaching residents and medical students the art of caring for sick newborn infants.
Dr. Jesurun graduated from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1970 with a B.A. in English literature. In 1973 he graduated from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston with a medical degree. After a three-year residency in Pediatrics, at Children's Hospital of Michigan, he spent two more years in training in Neonatology. He is board certified in both Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. In May of 2004 he graduated from the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine with a Masters Degree in Medical Management. He has spent the last twenty-five years at Thomason Hospital continuously improving services and neonatal outcome. He serves as a consultant to the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners as well as member of the Texas Medical Association Committee on Maternal and Perinatal Health. During his tenure at Thomason Hospital, he has served on almost every committee, and has been elected chief of staff twice. He was recently selected to participate in the 2005 National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems' Fellows Program.
He hopes that his experience will help in the area of health-care reform.

Dr. Merle Ipson, MD is a perinatal-neonatal specialist who spends most of her time taking care of sick infants and teaching residents and medical students in El Paso’s Thomason Hospital’s Special Care Nursery. She is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Residency Program Director at Texas Tech HSC at El Paso. Her interests are focused in the areas of medical education as well as early nutrition and it’s effect on the outcome of the preterm infant.
