Surgery Department
Research
The objective of research is to prepare you to evaluate literature for yourself, which requires a certain amount of discipline, a regular reading schedule and some information that hasn't been covered in medical school.
The Department of Surgery does not offer a specific research rotation. However, there is an active faculty and resident clinical research effort. Residents are encouraged to participate in ongoing studies, and (ideally) to develop projects on their own in which the faculty would be pleased to support and foster. We have a tremendous database which has the potential to generate interesting and worthwhile projects and ultimately publications.
Residents are expected to be an author or a co-author on at least one publication, presentation, or abstract during their five years of training.
Jessica Chavez is the Research Coordinator for the Department of Surgery. She may be contacted at jessica-s.chavez@ttuhsc.edu for questions or comments.
