Additional Loan Programs
The following is a list of alternative/private lenders that offer student loans. Alternative/private student loans typically require a credit check as part of the application process, and each lender’s approval criteria will vary. This list is meant to be a starting point, and it may not include all available lenders.
Elm Select Students can use this database to compare various private lenders.
Minnie Stevens Piper Foundation Student Loan Program Loans are made to full-time students who are U.S. Citizens/Permanent Residents and Texas Residents attending Texas colleges or universities. Loan applications will be considered for undergraduate Juniors, Seniors; and graduate students attending graduate schools.
Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Loan Programs These loans are offered to Texas residents.
Direct Parent PLUS Loan This loan is offered by the Department of Education to parents of dependent students.
Direct Grad PLUS Loan This loan is offered by the Department of Education to graduate/professional students.
Students should read the following information before deciding to borrow from a private lender:

•A student or parent borrower may select any lender and is not restricted to the lenders presented here.
•A borrower should not be directed to any specific lender by the University.
•For lender specific borrower benefits, including guarantee and origination fee information, please refer directly to the lender’s website.
• Some lenders may retain the borrower’s promissory note while in school and through the repayment time period, while other lenders may sell the note to a secondary market for repayment. A borrower should contact the lender selected to determine their specific process.
•A borrower has the right to cancel their student loan, in part or in full. Notify the TTUHSC Financial Aid Office to make this request.
