Jun Zhang PhD, ScD, received his ScD from Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1991 and his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) from the University of Florida in 1998. He completed his post-doctorial training and fellowship in human molecular genetics at Howard Hughes Medical Institute and McKusick-Nathan's Institute of Genetic Medicine of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He started his independent research career in human molecular genetics with appointments at Johns Hopkins in 2002, followed at University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2006, and now at Texas Tech. His research areas focus on human neurogenetics, and molecular etiology in human vascular disorders. Before coming to TTUHSC, he was a research director at UMMC Neurosurgery with joint academic appointments in several departments. He will be Research Director and Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology with joint appointments in the Department of Biomedical Sciences and the Center of Excellence for Neurosciences at Texas Tech University Health Science Center.

Norah Vasen is a Clinical Research Coordinator for the Department of Anesthesiology at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. She is a Certified Health Education Specialist and received a BS in Health Education and Promotion and a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Houston. Norah has previously worked with the Health and Human Performance Department at the University of Houston assisting with grant-funded studies involving obesity, weight loss and management, genetics and physiological exercise response. Most recently, she coordinated NIH-funded research studies at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital investigating Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Recurrent Abdominal Pain in children and adolescents. Norah’s research interests include various topics within prevention, education, clinical trials, and complementary and alternative medicine.

Junli Zhang is a Medical Research Technician III at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. Junli is a certified teacher and graduated with a BS in Biology Education from Qufu Normal University and an MS in Agronomy from Ocean University of China. Before moving to El Paso from China, she worked as a Biology Teacher at Qingdao Middle School and as an Undergraduate Instructor at Qingdao College in the Departments of Information Science and Technology and Food Science and Technology.
