This rotation is a 1-month rotation in caring for pediatric patients at University Medical Center El Paso and the El Paso Children’s Hospital. Our pediatric population ranges from premature newborns to young adults who require sedation, regional, or general anesthetic care for diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical interventions. Residents will work under the direct supervision of a pediatric anesthesia attending, usually in a 1 on 1 manner.
The goals of this rotation are threefold. First, this rotation provides an opportunity for the resident to gain experience in the safe anesthetic management of neonates, children, adolescents and young adults. Second, the resident will be exposed to surgical and anesthetic care of more complicated pediatric patients with congenital, developmental or acquired pediatric illnesses, including trauma. Third, the resident will work toward the ACGME and ABA distribution requirements for pediatric anesthesia case numbers and age ranges.

This rotation is a three month elective rotation in caring for pediatric patients at University Medical Center and the El Paso Children’s Hospital. Our pediatric population ranges from premature newborns to young adults who require sedation, regional, or general anesthetic care for diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical interventions. By building on the experiences of the first two pediatric anesthesia rotations, this rotation permits the resident to show progressive responsibility in independent patient care based on his or her developing pediatric knowledge, skills and attitudes.
