Description / Spotlight:
Dr Nahleh’s research interests, funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and several scientific agencies , focus on the treatment of breast cancer and other solid tumors with a variety of experimental and traditional cancer therapeutics including bevacizumab, Heat Shock Proteins, and other targeted agents. Dr Nahleh has received a $1.5 million CPRIT grant to establish a “Clinical Cancer Research Core Facility” that will allow patients with cancer to enroll in clinical trials and have more options. Dr Nahleh is a principal investigator in the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and a member of the NCI- Neoadjuvant and Metastatic breast committees collaborating with North American Breast Group (NABG) and Breast international Group (BIG). She is also a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American College of Physicians. Dr Nahleh is a national expert on Breast Cancer including the rare Male Breast Cancer and on hard-to-treat cancers like Inflammatory and Triple-Negative Breast Cancer. Dr Nahleh has received numerous awards including the Barbara Ann Karmanos‘s Hero of Breast Cancer Award. She has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed prestigious journals and written multiple book chapters. She has presented in major national and international cancer meetings and reviewed for numerous world -renowned journals. She has been interviewed on numerous newspapers, national TV and Radio stations in regards to breast cancer news. Dr Nahleh and her division’s work in El Paso, in line with the TTUHSC-Paul L. Foster School of Medicine‘s mission, is dedicated to providing all cancer patients in El Paso with state-of –the art patient care and access to potentially groundbreaking research and clinical trials, in addition to fostering education and first rate training of medical students and graduates as well as community outreach.

Description / Spotlight:
Ms. Guerrero’s clinical experience in oncology includes general oncology with a recent focus on breast cancer. She has been actively involved in caring for patients involved in clinical trials as well those receiving standard of care. As her practice in oncology evolves, so has her interest in symptom management particularly for those patients’ receiving hospice and palliative care. Another special interest interest is integrative health which merges traditional therapies with evidence based complementary therapies when appropriate. She has completed a 2 year intensive associate fellowship in Integrative Medicine through the University of Arizona under the direction of Dr. Andrew Weil.
