The Biomedical Track of the Professional Master's degree in Biotechnology
Hello and welcome to the graduate program in Biotechnology at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. We are proud to offer this unique program, which is designed to provide a high quality education in the exciting and growing field of Biotechnology. This field of study has already produced tests and therapies that have saved or improved the lives of countless people. Future discoveries and developments in biotechnology will profoundly affect every branch of medicine, and there is almost no limit to what can be accomplished by talented and dedicated biomedical scientists. Do you have what it takes to be a part of it?
If you're interested in biotechnology as applied to the field of human medicine, our Biomedical Track may be just what you're looking for. If you are interested in agricultural or another non-medical branch of Biotechnology, visit the site for the Science/Agriculture Track at TTU. These two tracks to the M.S. in Biotechnology are both 21 month curricula that include two semesters of coursework and a year of full time research in a University or biotechnology industry lab. It is typically a non-thesis degree with an optional thesis at the end of the second year by arrangement with the advisor. Collectively, the joint program comprises the only biotechnology degree in the nation that combines the expertise of faculty from both a medical school and a large research university, and that provides a breadth of educational opportunity ranging from animal and plant biotechnology in agriculture to cutting-edge concepts and applications in biomedicine.
There is no shortcut to a quality education in biotechnology and biomedical sciences. Our faculty are active investigators conducting internationally recognized research in their respective fields. Consequently, graduates from this program move on to the next phases in their careers with the confidence that can only come from the experience of working full time in a state-of-the-art biomedical research laboratory.
