Clinical Laboratory Sciences Second Degree and Certificate

CLS Online Admissions Information

The CLS 2nd Degree and CLS Certificate programs begin in August of each year. Please visit the link below for deadline information. The online application and all supporting documentation must be received by the deadline.

Admissions Requirements

1. Online Application

SHP application information can be accessed through the following link: http://www.ttuhsc.edu/health-professions/admissions/application.aspx. Please make sure that all information on your application is correct before selecting "Submit." If a change needs to be made, please email health.professions@ttuhsc.edu.

2. Application Fee

The TTUHSC Application Fee of $40 can be paid through the online application by credit card. You may also pay by check or money order ; mail a check or money order to the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs (3601 4th Street MS 6294, Lubbock, TX 79430). Please make checks and money orders payable to "TTUHSC." Your application will not be considered for admission until your fee has been paid.

3. Official Transcripts

The Office of Admissions and Student Affairs must receive a current, official transcript from every institution that you've attended. If you have attended TTU or TTUHSC, you only need to send official transcripts from the other institutions you've attended. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope from the institution and must have been printed within the last year. Please send all official transcripts to the following address:

4. Bachelor's Degree

A Bachelor's Degree is required for admission in addition to the specific prerequisite courses listed in Section 6.
 
5. Minimum GPA

A minimum cumulative GPA of a 2.5 is required; this includes all courses taken at every institution attended. A minimum science prerequisite GPA of a 2.5 is also required. Provisional admission may be offered to applicants with a GPA of less than 2.5. Such applications will be reviewed on an individual basis.

6. Prerequisite Coursework

All prerequisite courses must be complete prior to matriculation. Applicants who have completed all or most of their prerequisite coursework at the time of application may be at an advantage during the admissions process. Courses must be completed with a "C" or above to be considered for prerequisite credit.

 

CLS Second Degree Prerequisites

CLS Program Prerequisites:

Science Prerequisites - 28 credit hours
*General Chemistry I with Lab 4 hours
*General Chemistry II with Lab 4 hours
*Biology I or AP I with Lab 4 hours
*Biology II or AP II with Lab 4 hours
*Microbiology with Lab 4 hours
*Genetics or science elective 4 hours
*Intro to Organic or Organic Chemistry I with Lab 4 hours
Math - 3 credit hours
*Statistics 3 hours

*CLS 2nd Degree applicants must have a Bachelor's degree to include the Texas Common Core completion.
**Recommended Courses: Immunology, Anatomy, Physiology, Genetics, Cell Biology and upper division Microbiology.

 

7. CLS Second Degree Admission Requirements

Bachelor's Degree

Texas Common Core Requirements: 42 hours

CLS Certificate Prerequisites

CLS Program Prerequisites:

Science Prerequisites - 28 credit hours
*General Chemistry I with Lab 4 hours
*General Chemistry II with Lab 4 hours
*Biology I or AP I with Lab 4 hours
*Biology II or AP II with Lab 4 hours
*Microbiology with Lab 4 hours
*Genetics or science elective 4 hours
*Intro to Organic or Organic Chemistry I with Lab 4 hours
Math - 3 credit hours
*Statistics 3 hours

*CLS certicate applicants must have a Bachelor's degree.

8. CLS Certificate Admission Requirements

9. International Applicants

All foreign coursework must be evaluated by a Foreign Credential Service. We also require TOEFL/IELTS Scores for any applicant for whom English is their second language (scores are considered on a case by case basis).
