InfantRisk Center
Our Proposal
To form a national call center, where mothers and their doctors can access up-to-date, evidence-based answers to their questions about using specific medications during pregnancy or lactation. The new InfantRisk Center is associated with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Amarillo and Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health.
With sufficient funding, we will be able to begin taking calls by Spring 2010. For years Dr. Hale's websites and e-mail have been the major source of information to breastfeeding mothers.
Help Dr. Hale build this center to expand his vision for all mothers in America.
Which medications are safe?
Where can mothers go for accurate information?
Each year, more than 4.3 million women give birth in the U.S. Virtually all of these women will use at least one medication during pregnancy. Seventy-seven percent of these women initiate breastfeeding. Most of them will use prescription or over-the-counter medications while breastfeeding. Thus, the number of drug exposures in the prenatal and postnatal life of their infants is extraordinarily high. Learn more about our Goals and Objectives.
