ConnecTech
Luminis Portal
The portal is a web site that offers a broad array of resources and services to audiences in a unified way. The portal is a Java-based framework that provides personalized capabilities to faculty, staff and students as well as providing a pathway to content that is external to the portal itself. The Texas Tech University Health Sciences (TTUHSC) portal is referred to as WebRaider. The look and features of the portal are customizable so that the needs of each audience can be satisfied.
In keeping with the goal of providing a streamlined point of access to services and resources over the web, the TTUHSC portal provides the technology to integrate current and future services into a central point of access. As TTUHSC grows and evolves, the portal will also grow and evolve to meet current and future challenges, and enhance the user experience.
The portal presents a "branded" entry point and content for the TTUHSC. The environment is customizable to reflect the needs and preferences of the individual constituencies. Information and applications are made available both as general interest items as well as those targeted to specific groups of faculty, staff, and students or any combination thereof.
New students are exposed to the portal during Orientation, and learn to make it their starting place when registering for classes, accessing WebCT, etc.
As part of the ConnecTech initiative, the current portal will be replaced by the Luminis Portal. The Luminis Portal will provide a single point for accessing content associated with the Banner (student, HR, finance, etc.) and various other applications (WebCT, Library, etc.). The Luminis Portal is scheduled to replace the current portal by January 2008. Applications that are available in the current portal will be migrated to the new portal and Banner applications will be implemented in the portal as they become available.
