Exchange 2007 Upgrade

Email Migration Project


For the past several months TTUHSC Technology Services has been systematically laying the foundation to upgrade and strengthen our enterprise messaging system. This has been a major effort with extensive testing to minimize the impact to our customers.

This change should be transparent to PC customers. Email addresses will not change and current Outlook clients (2003 and 2007) will continue to work as is. Macintosh customers running older email clients and operating systems may need to make changes to their settings or perform software upgrades. Outlook Web Access (OWA) customers will see only minimal changes to the user interface.

As part of this migration, all email accounts will be physically moved from one server to another. Email account moves will occur December 1st through the 31st from 6:30PM to 6:00AM CST. Access to customer email accounts will be interrupted during the move process. Depending on the size and number of items in an email account, the move of a single customer email account will take from 40 minutes to an hour (for email accounts less than 1GB in size). Logging off and shut down your computer is recommended but not required during this period. However if you decide to keep your computer on during your mailbox migration, you may need to reboot for your email client to synchronize properly. If the migration fails, your mailbox will remain as is on the the original server and Technology Services will contact you with further information. Customers having problems accessing email outside of the migration window (6:30 PM - 6:00 AM CST) should contact their local help desk.

Documents concerning specific issues will be added below during and following the migration process.


UPDATE - Important Information For Entourage Users

Once your mailbox is migrated to the new Exchange 2007 servers, Entourage 2004 customers will need to upgrade to Entourage 2008. This upgrade is available in Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac, which can be downloaded through the eRaider account manager or by contacting your local campus IT Help Desk.

If you have completed the upgrade or already have Entourage 2008 installed, you will need to do the following:

1. Make sure Microsoft Office for Mac has the latest update applied

2. Download and install the free package, Entourage 2008 for Mac, Web Services Edition, located at: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx

3. IMPORTANT - Open Entourage and choose to import account information from their previous Entourage 2008 identity

4. Under the HSC Exchange Account information in Entourage, set the Exchange server on the Advanced settings to: https://mail.ttuhsc.edu/EWS/Exchange.asmx
