Hardware and OS Configurations

INSTITUTIONAL PURCHASES:

The TTUHSC IT Division supports Dell and Macintosh computers for institutional use. The IT Solution Center has technicians certified to provide warranty service and hardware repair for these manufacturers. TTUHSC IT cannot guarantee that hardware purchased from other manufacturers will function correctly within the institutional environment. Equipment purchased from other manufacturers will also require third party support for repair services.

For special computing needs, please contact the IT Solution Center for assistance in purchasing computers/peripheral devices for institutional use. The ITSC technicians will perform a needs assessment/evaluation and provide a customized quote for products compatible with the TTUHSC institutional environment.

PERSONAL PURCHASES:

Before purchasing a new computer for use at TTUHSC, we highly recommend the following specifications to ensure your new computer meets or exceeds TTUHSC IT compatibility. Recommended PC bundle packages for both personal and department purchases are available through our Dell/Summus website, http://www.ttuhsc.edu/it/is/itsolutioncenter/dell/. Apple and Mac products are available for personal purchase directly from Apple, http://www.apple.com and for department purchase through the Apple punch-out in TechBuy, http://techbuy.ttu.edu. TTUHSC IT can also perform warranty repair on select Dell and Apple products for both institutional property and personal equipment owned by current TTUHSC staff, students and faculty.

Windows 7 Enterprise is the only supported operating system for institutional desktop computers. Do not select Windows 7 Home, Windows 8 or Ubuntu when configuring your system. Please contact TTUHSC IT, itsolutions@ttuhsc.edu, if you have any questions.

Important Note

Windows 7 Enterprise is the standard supported operating system for institutional laptop computers with Windows 8.1 as an alternative for laptops with touch screen functionality. Do not select Windows 7 Home, Windows 8 or Ubuntu when configuring your system. Windows 8.0 is NOT a supported operating system. Any computer with Windows 8.0 should be upgraded to Windows 8.1. IMPORTANT: Departments should exercise caution when ordering laptops with touchscreen capabilities as not all users may be comfortable with the Windows 8 interface.   • Laser: Recommended for black & white printing only. Color Laser: Recommended for high volume color printing. Color Inkjet: Recommended for low volume color printing.
  • Evaluate the cost of replacement cartridges and other consumables between brands before purchasing
  • 20 pages per minute (b&w) or faster
  • USB (Universal Serial Bus) interface

Networked Printer

  • Brands: Dell (recommended), Hewlett Packard
  • Laser: Recommended for black & white printing only. Color Laser: Recommended for high volume color printing. Color Inkjet: Recommended for low volume color printing.

Information Technology is able to install and configure printers and scanners. We also are able to service Dell imaging products under warranty only.
