Luminis Content Management System 3.4 is here!

The Information Services department has been diligently working on this new and exciting upgrade. With the upgrade, improved functionality will be implemented. In this document, we have provided snapshots of these new functions as well as an overview of the differences you will see.  If you have any questions about the new features, please feel free to email LCMS.SUPPORT@ttuhsc.edu.

New Features & Enhancements

Support for Internet Explorer 7 and 8

Luminis CMS 3.4 supports the Internet Explorer 7 and 8 browser.

Limited support for Safari

Luminis CMS 3.4 formally supports Safari 3.2.1, 3.2.3, and 4 on OS 10.5.

Real Objects Editor upgrade

Luminis CMS 3.4 includes and supports version 5.1.204 of the Real Objects Edit-on Pro Editor, which powers the GUI application that users work with to create and edit Webpages. With the upgrade to the editor, Luminis CMS 3.4 now provides full support for Macintosh users who access the system using the Safari 3 browser.

Performance and scalability improvements

There are noticeably improved system response and performance over previous releases of Luminis CMS. Changes were made in 3.2.1 to improve editor performance. In this release, enhancements were made to improve webview creation, workgroup and component creation, and component editing. In addition, system scalability improvements were made so that more users can perform tasks concurrently with higher responsiveness.

Due to increased performance testing within SunGard Higher Education, the product has further improved, as well as follows better guidelines, for tuning and configuration to support scalability and performance goals. Please contact your support or consulting services representative for more information on tuning.

Simplified changing of page layouts

You can more easily update page layouts when you want to publish a new page design with reused page content. You can choose a new page layout from the page properties similar to existing capability to choose a layout during new page creation.  (This is only if your webview has more than one layout.)

Look and Feel

How you interact with Luminis will not change that much.  For the most part, if you are familiar with 3.2 (our current version), you will not have any difficulty with the upgrade.

Documentum Check Out Folder

With the new version of Luminis, the documentum/checkout folder will be created in a different location.  Currently, the checkout folder is located at C:\Documentum\Checkout.  With the new version, the checkout folder is located at C:\Users\username\Documentum\Checkout OR C:\Documents and Settings\username\documentum\checkout.

Importing Documents and Images

When importing documents or images, the process is the same as it was in version 3.2, with one exception.  When you get to the Object Definition screen, make sure that SCT Web Document (sct_web_document) is selected as the type from the drop down menu as shown in the screen shot below.

Import

Save/Cancel buttons

The position of the Save button has changed when editing a document in Site Studio.  Currently, the Save and Cancel buttons reside at the top of the screen as well as the bottom of the screen.

In version 3.4, the buttons are all at the top of the screen as shown below. This makes it much easier and faster to edit, save, view, and go back into the webview you were working in.

New Edit Bar

In addition to the button bar being easier to access, there is now a Tools drop down menu button.  From this button, you can render the document out, see the properties of the page, and go straight to import and create a new document.

Preview Mode in Luminis

In Luminis 3.4 Preview Mode (View or clicking the name of the file), there are still all the same options as version 3.2, but the look has been changed, and the additional Tools menu has been added here as well.  Clicking Site Studio will take you back to the folder you were on before you entered preview mode.  Logout, of course, will log you out of the system.  Edit will open the WYSIWYG editor with all of the editing capabilities.
