What are the benefits of the Campus Agreement?
The Campus Agreement provides a blanket license to many Microsoft packages, such as Windows and Office. The agreement allows TTU/TTUHSC faculty, staff, students and departments to run the licensed software for a 12-month period and is licensed for all upgrades and downgrades of the licensed software throughout the term of the agreement. At the end of the agreement, TTU/TTUHSC can renew the license agreement, cancel out of the annual subscription model through a Buy-out Option or remove the software from your machines.
There is no cost to departments or individuals unless you wish to purchase the CD media. If you purchase the media, the CDs cost $5.00 each and are available at High Tech Computer Store in the basement of the University Center on the TTU campus.
Which Products are available for the Macintosh?
Microsoft Office 98 and Office 2001 are available for the Mac.
How long will this agreement last?
The agreement will last from now until August 31, 2001 and will be annually renewable each September 1.
What kinds of support will be available for use of Microsoft products?
This agreement does not include any software support from Microsoft. Tech support over the phone or through e-mail is not supported. However, support is available online through Microsoft's web site.
Will Technology Services install the software on my home computer?
Technology Services will not be able to install software on, or repair, any non-state owned computers, including your home computer.
Which software is covered by this agreement?
A full listing of software available for faculty/staff and students can be viewed at: http://www.depts.ttu.edu/itts/software/
Who may use the products covered by the contract?
Any Texas Tech Health Sciences Center student, faculty, staff, or departmental entity may use the products covered by the Campus License Agreement in campus offices, labs, on all HSC campuses.
May I resell or give the media I obtained under the Campus Agreement to someone else?
No. Neither the media nor any licenses may be resold. The licenses are not transferable to another person. Nor should any individual have the media without having signed the official paperwork.
Although only one set of CD's per product can be purchased per year, defective CD's will be replaced at High Tech. You must still possess the defective CD's for the replacement.
Even though the site says you can only download once copy, in this case you may download an additional copy for your use.
I downloaded the software. Can I put it on a CD?
You may create a CD for your own use with the copy of the software you downloaded. You are not allowed to give or loan the CD or the downloaded software to any other person for any reason.
I lost my CD. Can I buy a replacement?
Each person is allowed to purchase only one copy of any CD product during a one year period. You cannot purchase another copy of the CD if you lost it. You can download another copy if you wish, or you can purchase a different version of the software. In order to obtain a replacement copy of purchased CDs if they are defective, you must still have the original ones your purchased.
Our Campus Agreement is limited to the HSC System.
How many times may I install the software?
Students may install the software on 2 different computers.
What happens if you mess up and need to reload your CD more than twice?
You can reinstall and register infinitely on the same PC.
Can students take the software home for personal use?
Each student may take home one copy of all licensed software for use on a personally-owned computer, whether home is on or off campus. Each student who has more than one computer (a desktop computer in their home and a laptop they carry around campus with them) may install the software on both. (Please note: This excludes commercial use. No Campus Agreement software may be used for commercial purposes of any kind.)
You can reinstall as many times as you like on the same 2 machines. If you install on a third machine and try to register, you will be rejected.
The CD would only be "used up" if you had installed on more than two machines, or if you had upgraded your machine so that it was now out of tolerance and looked like a different machine. If this is the case, when the third machine registration gets refused, you are referred to the registration center. The student will be prompted to call the Microsoft Customer Service Center and they'll need to explain why they need to install for a third time.
The Registration Wizard will allow routine changes in hardware so that users can upgrade their computer without having to reregister. The phone number will appear in the User Interface when you need it. You need to provide the installation identification, explain your case to the customer service representative, and if it is a legitimate situation, they will provide a confirmation.
When they install on a new machine they will be asked to register. If the CD has already been registered twice, they are refused. They would follow the process as above and explain that they have transferred their license to this new machine. This assumes, of course, that Office was removed from their other machine.
Can Students use the Faculty/Staff versions of the software?
No. Students may only use the student version of the software. The Microsoft Campus License Agreement expressly prohibits faculty and staff from distributing the faculty/staff version of Microsoft software to students.
How many times may I install the software?
Faculty and staff do not have no restrictions on the number of times they may install the software.
Can faculty/staff take the software home for personal use?
Faculty and Staff may use the products on personally-owned computers at home for their university "work at home" needs as long as they have a corresponding copy of the software on their university-provided computer at work. Tasks you are allowed to perform on your university-owned work computer (this includes personal e-mail, web surfing, document creation, etc., excluding commercial use) may also be done on your personally-owned computer under "work at home" rights covered by the Campus Agreement.
Individuals who do not use a computer at work may not take the software home. For this reason, Microsoft products may not be distributed to retired faculty and staff. If you leave TTUHSC employment, you must remove this software on your termination date.
Do departments have to purchase an individual copy of the media for each machine?
No. Departments may purchase one copy of the media from High Tech and use that single copy of the media to install software onto multiple university-owned machines. Microsoft requires that records be kept in each department relating to which computers leave Microsoft Campus Agreement software installed on their hard drives.
Do departments need to account for the CD's they purchase?
All departments are required to maintain an accurate accounting of the CD's they have purchased under the MCA and all duplicates they create. Furthermore, all departments are required to maintain accurate records of which faculty/staff members may have borrowed the CD's to load MCA software on their work PC's.
What records are department required to keep?
All departments are required to maintain accurate records of the PC's that a MCA software package is loaded on. These records should include the software package name, the Tech property ID of the PC, the location of the PC and any necessary contact information. This information is to be reported on a monthly basis to Information Services.
Can the department loan its CD's out to faculty or staff to load on their home PC's?
No. Departmental faculty/staff should not be allowed to possess or borrow CD's for any purpose other than to load the MCA software on their work PC's.
Can the department loan its CD's to students?
No. Students may only use the student version of the software. The Microsoft Campus License Agreement expressly prohibits faculty and staff from distributing the faculty/staff version of Microsoft software to students.
