General Questions
What is WebCT 6.0?

WebCT is the CE Enterprise software from the Blackboard Learning System that includes a complete set of tools for course preparation, delivery, and management.  With WebCT, we have easy course preparation, efficient course management, and an innovative environment.  Upgrading to WebCT 6.0 will provide us with new and improved tools and functions , while retaining all of the previously available features with WebCT 4.0.

How do I access WebCT 6.0?

WebCT can be accessed through WebRaider. If you do not have the WebCT channel on your WebRaider, click here for instructions on adding the channel.

I cannot access my course because the date on my WebCT is incorrect.  How do I get the correct date to show in WebCT?

First, clear the cache in your browser by selecting tools from the menu bar.  Go to internet options, then in the Browsing history section, click the delete button.  You can delete the temporary internet files, cookies, history, and passwords from this screen.  There is also information on WebCT Tuneup that will check your browser and recommend any changes that need to be done.  If none of the above fixes the issue, contact 806-743-2870 and ask for the WebCT Helpdesk.

I upgraded JAVA and it is not working correctly with WebCT.  What do I need to do?

We have found that with some versions, when upgrading JAVA, the older program has to be completely removed, and then install the recommended version of JAVA, instead of just installing the newer version on top of the older one.  We have created a program that will make sure that you have the correct version of JAVA on your machine. Go to the PC Health Check site to run the program. You will need to be in Internet Explorer and have the .NET framework installed in order to run this program.

To remove Java from your machine manually, follow the steps outlined below.

  • Click Start and choose the Control Panel option.
  • Click on the add or remove programs icon.
  • Scroll and find the version of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment) that you are running, and click remove.
  • Follow the steps to complete the removal of Java.
  • Download the recommended version of Java to install.  This can be obtained from the WebCT Tuneup website.
  • Either double click on the setup.exe file that was saved to your C drive, or follow the installation instructions if you ran it from the Website.

If you are still having issues after completing the install, please call the WebCT Helpdesk at 806-743-2870.

I am getting an error when trying to logon to WebCT after either timing out, or logging off.  What do I do?

Completely exit out of the WebCT window, and re-enter through the WebRaider channel. This procedure will log you back in to WebCT correctly.

WebCT is not showing me all the information that I should be able to access. What do I need to check?

Make sure the Pop Up Blocker is set to always allow pop ups from the elearning6 site. If that is correct, then run the browser check after logging in to WebCT. Go to Webct Tuneup and compare the recommended browser settings to what you have set up.

Will WebCT work with a MAC?

Yes, WebCT will work with a Mac. For additional resources, visit the Blackboard Browser Tune-up page.

Where can I get the old icons from WebCT 4.1 and move them into WebCT 6.0?

The WebCT 4.1 icons can be found at WebCT 4.1 Icons, along with the instructions for moving them into WebCT 6.0.

How do I import exams into WebCT using Respondus?

The download and import instructions for Respondus are located on the Respondus Download/Import link.

Is there a student guide or tutorial available for WebCT 6.0?

The Student Quick Start Tutorial can be accessed on the Student Tutorial page.

What if I am having problems opening a PDF file?

If you are having problems opening a PDF file, please visit Adobe Help for assistance with Adobe Reader and PDF files.

Who do I contact if I am having problems, or to report an issue with WebCT 6.0?

If you are experiencing trouble, or want to report an issue with WebCT 6.0, please call 806-743-2870 and tell the receptionist that you are calling regarding a WebCT issue and she will transfer you to WebCT Helpdesk Personnel who will aid you in troubleshooting the issue. You may also send an email to the WebCT Helpdesk. When sending an email, please include your name, eRaider username, a description of the issue you are experiencing, time of occurence, and your contact information in the email.

When I view my grade book, the columns don't line up correctly. How do I fix this?

From your My HSC Blackboard screen, click on My Settings in the upper right hand corner of the screen. Go to My Tool Options, and scroll down to the fonts section. Make sure the Font size is set to System default. This should fix the alignment problem with the grade book.

Known Issues

Faculty

The Respondus Lockdown Browser (RLB) defaults the exam to show all questions at once instead of one question at a time.  Information Services is currently working with Respondus to resolve this issue, and we will update as we receive information.

The content descriptions change when moved.  When something is named (example: a file) and subsequently moved, it will revert back to the old file name.  WebCT is designed to revert the file back to the original name if it is moved.

Designer view from the Build tab does not display the same as the student tab.

Calendar dates are randomly changing when they are edited.  A ticket has been opened with WebCT for this issue.

Students

Student calendar displays incorrectly with IE6 - When in the calendar of any course in IE6, the scroll bar disappears and the entries at the bottom of the page are dropped.  Clicking on the date again restores the normal view.  Currently Information Services is working with WebCT to address this issue.

Goals are not in the right order for the students.  The instructors place goals in specific order and students see an arbitrary order.  IT has been able to recreate this issue and it has been turned in to WebCT.  We have no ETA on the resolution for it at this time.
