El Paso Community

The city of El Paso sits on the U.S.-Mexico border and is home to more than half a million people. At the intersection of New Mexico, Texas and Mexico, El Paso and its sister city in Mexico, Ciudad Juarez, share the Rio Grande as their border. Named the Sun City because of the arid warm climate, the Franklin Mountains extend into El Paso and nearly divide the city. During the late 19th Century El Paso would be considered part of the Wild West, with the cattle industry and railroads bringing gamblers and gun slingers. During the Mexican Revolution, El Paso served as a refuge to those fleeing from Mexico. Today the region houses Fort Bliss, a major United States Army installation. Those who live in El Paso are very proud to call the spanning city their home with many businesses headquartered there including Western Refinery, Wrangler, Hoover and Boeing.
The El Paso program includes the School of Medicine, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Thomason General Hospital, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and prenatal diagnosis services at Providence-Sierra Hospitals.
