TTUHSC Electronic Books
I-N
The Libraries of the Health Sciences have purchased access to more than 38,000 electronic books for the use of faculty, staff, and students of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Only a limited selection of titles are available through the six alphabetic e-book lists. Thousands of additional titles are available from eBooks on EBSCOhost® [formerly NetLibrary] and ebrary.
The TTUHSC Libraries are members of TexShare, a cooperative program of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. As a result, TTUHSC faculty staff and students have access to eBooks on EBSCOhost® [formerly NetLibrary]. "More than 27,000 eBooks are available for browsing, searching, and virtual check-out. TexShare's eBook collection includes titles from the world's leading business, technology, trade, reference, academic, and scholarly publishers."
ebrary offers e-books from the world's leading STM and academic publishers. The TTUHSC Libraries have purchased access to these e-book subject databases: Life Sciences (includes Biotechnology, Agriculture, and Environmental Studies) [over 2,400 titles], Medical [over 1,500 titles], Nursing & Allied Health [over 1,800 titles], and Physical Sciences [over 1,700 titles]. These collections overlap only slightly.
ebrary books may be accessed by clicking on the ebrary logo. Most are also available from the Library Catalog.
Hundreds of additional e-books are available in the following monographic series. Individual titles in these series are not included in the six alphabetic e-book lists.

- Description: "Defoe's account of the bubonic plague that swept London in 1665 remains as vivid as it is harrowing. Based on Defoe's own childhood memories and prodigious research, A journal of the plague year walks the line between fiction, history, and reportage. In meticulous and unsentimental detail it renders the daily life of a city under siege; the often gruesome medical precautions and practices of the time; the mass panics of a frightened citizenry; and the solitary travails of Defoe's narrator, a man who decides to remain in the city through it all, chronicling the course of events with an unwavering eye. Defoe's Journal remains perhaps the greatest account of a natural disaster ever written." [description from the Modern Library Classics edition]

- Description: "Produced by the Buros Institute at the University of Nebraska, the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) provides users with a comprehensive guide to over 2,000 contemporary testing instruments. Designed for an audience ranging from novice test consumers to experienced professionals, the MMY series contains information essential for a complete evaluation of test products within such diverse areas as psychology, education, business, and leadership. All MMY entries contain descriptive information (e.g., test purpose, publisher, pricing) and edited review(s) written by leading content area experts. To be included in the MMY, a test must be commercially available, be published in the English language, and be new or revised since it last appeared in the series. First published by Oscar K. Buros, the MMY series allows users to make knowledgeable judgments and informed selection decisions about the increasingly complex world of testing. MMY provides coverage from Volume 9 to the present."

Notes on nursing : what it is, and what it is not. 1st American ed. / Florence Nightingale. 1st American ed. 1860.
- Source: A Celebration of Women Writers (open access)
- Note: HTML format.
- Description: "The following notes are by no means intended as a rule of thought by which nurses can teach themselves to nurse, still less as a manual to teach nurses to nurse. They are meant simply to give hints for thought to women who have personal charge of the health of others. Every woman, or at least almost every woman, in England has, at one time or another of her life, charge of the personal health of somebody, whether child or invalid,--in other words, every woman is a nurse. Every day sanitary knowledge, or the knowledge of nursing, or in other words, of how to put the constitution in such a state as that it will have no disease, or that it can recover from disease, takes a higher place. It is recognized as the knowledge which every one ought to have--distinct from medical knowledge, which only a profession can have." [description from the first American edition (1860)]
