Circulation Policies

  • Distance education students must be registered with the TTUHSC Libraries in order to borrow items or to request Interlibrary Loans and photocopies. A Library Account Application form may be completed online by filling out the online form or may be requested by calling the Library.
  • By signing and submitting the Library Account Application, the student accepts all responsibilities stated on the application form.
  • All books and audiovisuals in the TTUHSC Libraries have the following loan periods:
    • Students within traveling distance of a TTUHSC Library may check out books for two weeks and audiovisuals for ten days. Books may be renewed twice and AVs, once. A maximum of twelve items may be checked out at one time.
    • Books and audiovisuals sent through the mail are checked out for one month. They may be renewed one time. The Library will pay shipping and will include a return label with the item.
  • Items may be renewed by telephone or through the online catalog with a HSC eRaider account if they are not overdue or on hold for another user. Call the Circulation Desk of the Library from which the items were borrowed if assistance is needed.
  • In an effort to help patrons avoid overdue fines, courtesy reminder notices will be sent via e-mail two days prior to the day the items are due. However, patrons are responsible for returning items on time, as well as any fines accrued, even if a notice was not received.
  • Journals, reference items, computer programs, x-rays, and audiovisual equipment (DVD players, projectors, models, etc.) do not circulate.
  • If questions should arise regarding Library circulation policy or access, distance education students should contact the Library on the campus where they are registered. Abilene and Dallas distance education students should contact the Lubbock campus library.

Fines/Library Service Fees

There is a three (3) day grace period after the due date for Library books, audiovisuals, and Interlibrary Loan books, during which time no fines are charged. After the grace period, fines are $0.50 per day for all the days that each item is overdue. Fines continue to accrue until the item is returned. As a courtesy, overdue notices are emailed or mailed. After the second overdue notice, a bill is mailed which reflects the replacement cost of the item, a $25.00 processing fee, and any fines which have accrued.

Lost items are billed at cost of the item, plus $25.00 handling fee, plus accrued fines. The Koha system already calculates the cost of the book along with the $25.00 handling fee. If the lost item is found, the patron should return it to the library and the previous transaction becomes a donation. The library does not refund money for lost items if and when they are found.

Library service fees (such as ILL) and library fines may be paid in cash (in-person), check, and credit. Students paying by credit can use the online credit payment form. Fine and fee amounts below $5.00 will be rounded to the $5.00 minimum when paying by credit. Credit transactions are human processed. Off-hours transactions may require up to 48 hours to be applied to your library account.

Electronic Resources
