Important changes to the TTUHSC Library web site

In January 2011 the TTUHSC libraries will implement some important enhancements to the library web site. Many frequently-used resources will be reorganized. Please preview these upcoming changes on the enhancements page.

Joanna Briggs Institute

The Joanna Briggs Institute is now linked from the Databases flyout. Established in 1996, the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) is now a growing, dynamic international collaboration involving nursing, medical and allied health researchers, clinicians, academics and quality managers across 40 countries in every continent. JBI offers resources designed to meet the needs of service providers, health professionals and consumers by connecting the best available international evidence to the point of care. An initiative of Royal Adelaide Hospital and the University of Adelaide, JBI is an operational unit of Royal Adelaide Hospital (the University's major teaching hospital) and the University of Adelaide. The Institute's name and trademark are internationally recognised.

IDIS database added

The School of Pharmacy Amarillo has added the IDIS/Web database.  IDIS/Web is a database of index records to articles about drugs and drug therapy in humans taken from over 200 leading medical and pharmaceutical journals. The complete article is also available online (1988 through the current month). The system is designed to retrieve specific information concerning a drug and/or drug treatment of a disease state. Authoritative publications have been selected to provide broad coverage of both general and specialty areas of pharmacy and medicine.

Ident-a-drug database added

The School of Pharmacy Amarillo has added the Ident-a-drug database.  Pharmaceutical tablets and capsules are imprinted with identification codes on them. This Ident-A-Drug Database identifies drug products by the codes imprinted on them as well as the color and shape of the product. Ident-A-Drug Database is a subscription service that is continually updated as new drug products are introduced, or identification codes change.

The Netter Presenter 5th Edition has been released as an eBook, available from the library home page underneath Databases > NetterPresenter.  With this release the Netter Presenter 4th Edition automatically becomes available as a download-only version.

Springer Protocols

SpringerProtocols is now available off the Databases link at the TTUHSC Libraries homepage. SpringerProtocols is an electronic database of easily reproducible laboratory protocols in the life and biomedical sciences. Among the protocols available are Methods in Molecular Biology; Methods in Molecular Medicine, and Methods in Pharmacology and Toxicology.

covers full-text scientific, technical and medical (STM) literature published in 24 fields of science. It offers full-text articles from peer-reviewed journals, as well as a range of authoritative books, including reference works, handbooks and book series.

images.MD Is Now SpringerImages


images.MD has incorporated into SpringerImages, Springer's new collection of scientific and medical images.

Description: "SpringerImages is a growing collection of scientific images that spans the scientific, technical and medical fields, including high-quality clinical images from images.MD. The continually updated collection -currently over 1.5 million images - gathers photos, graphs, histograms, figures, and tables, and is available to libraries and their patrons via a searchable online database. The SpringerImages interface enables users to search faster, more broadly and more accurately, through captions, keywords, context and more, even jumping from the image to the source article. Users can create personalized image 'sets,' and can easily export images for use in their own presentations or lectures."
Note: As TTUHSC faculty, staff, and students, "you have only access to the Medical and Life Sciences component, which includes images from our journal content (Life Sciences, Medicine & Public Health, and Pharmacy) as well as Images MD and Biology Image Library."

Northwestern University Surgical Video Collection

The TTUHSC Libraries now subscribe to the Northwestern University Surgical Video Collection. This is a collection of 28 high quality videos with professional voice-over offering specialized surgery procedures in GI Surgery, Breast Surgery, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Endocrine Surgery, and Colorectal Surgery. MICROMEDEX 2.0

MICROMEDEX now has a new search interface for its drug information system. The new design, MICROMEDEX 2.0, provides a simplified approach to locating clinical information on drugs, toxicology, diseases, acute care, and alternative medicine. Throughout the month of March, the TTUHSC Reference Librarians will be demonstrating MICROMEDEX 2.0.

New From EBSCOhost Research Databases

The TTUHSC Libraries have purchased access to the following two databases from EBSCOhost research databases:
AgeLine
Source: EBSCOhost Research Databases (paid site license)
Coverage: 1978 to date; with selected coverage from 1966-1977.
Description: "AgeLine focuses exclusively on the population aged 50+ and issues of aging. AgeLine is the premier source for the literature of social gerontology and includes aging-related content from the health sciences, psychology, sociology, social work, economics, and public policy. This database indexes over 600 journals, books, book chapters, reports, dissertations, consumer guides, and educational videos."

Nursing Reference Center

Description: "Nursing Reference Center (NRC) provides a user-friendly point-of-care resource intended for staff nurses, nurse administrators, nursing students, nurse faculty, and hospital librarians. It delivers the best available and most recent clinical evidence and knowledge on conditions and diseases via a nursing-specific graphical interface.
"NRC is accessible from a patient's bedside, nursing station, kiosk, office, or home. Clinical care data included in NRC consists of:
  • CINAHL Nursing Guide - Over 3,500 evidence-based lessons on procedures, diseases and conditions, legal cases and drugs. . . .
  • Patient Education - Over 4,000 Health Library documents available in both English and Spanish.
  • Health Nursing News - HealthDay News with daily FDA, clinical, and drug updates.
"Patient care planning and access to detailed drug information is simplified via embedded HTML copies of F.A. Davis's Laboratory & Diagnostic Tests with Nursing Implications, F.A. Davis's Drug Guide for Nurses and Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary.

Did you know that the TTUHSC Libraries subscribe to the McGraw-Hill family of products including: AccessMedicine, AccessPharmacy, AccessSurgery, JAMAevidence, and Scriver's OMMBID? Throughout the month of February, the TTUHSC Reference Librarians will be demonstrating AccessMedicine, AccessPharmacy, and AccessSurgery. Each product has it own unique set of resources based on its specialities including: e-books, calculators, self-assessments, images, video clips, audio, and board reviews.
