Application Process

Students seeking information concerning admission to the graduate program in Immunology and Infectious Diseases, training and research opportunities, or teaching and research assistantships in the Department of Immunology and Molecular Microbiology should contact the graduate advisor. All applications to the graduate program are submitted online.

Application Requirements

Students who wish to enter the graduate program in the Immunology and Infectious Diseases concentration are expected to meet the following admissions requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and a 3.0 grade point average for any graduate coursework.
  • Completion of both the VERBAL and QUANTITATIVE sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) within the last 5 years.
  • International students must submit TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing Service) scores.

The above are minimal requirements and the department usually accepts only students whose achievements exceed these minimal requirements.

Applicants must submit the following to be considered and are encouraged to review admission requirements listed here. Minimum GRE and TOEFL testing may also be found there.

  • ___Completed Application
  • ___Official transcripts. US applicants must submit an official transcript from each college or university attended. International applicants must provide a course-by-course evaluation of all coursework taken at degree-granting institutions recognized by their government/governmental ministry.
  • ___Reference letters. At least two reference letters mailed to the graduate school. The graduate school does not accept faxes or emails.
  • ___Immunization record.
  • ___Financial Statement and Bank Statement
  • ___Oath of Residency
  • ___Essay
  • ___Application Fee
  • ___Passport. A copy of an international applicant’s passport assists in processing the I-20.
  • ___Placement fee. A $50 placement guarantee fee is required upon an offer of admissions.

Additional information may be required for some applicants when policies change or when submitted materials are incomplete or unreadable.

Application Process

When the application is complete and all required documents are submitted please contact our coordinator, Lisa Moran, to ensure all documents have been received. Once applications are complete and documentation is received our department graduate faculty will review the application. Applications are generally reviewed on a monthly cycle as applications are received. Applications recommended for admission will be submitted to the Graduate Program of Biomedical Sciences Admissions committee for further review. When a final decision is made the department coordinator will contact the applicant by email or phone. Please ensure contact information is provided and is up-to-date during the review process.
