About Lubbock

Lubbock is a city in and the county seat of Lubbock County, Texas, United States.  The city is located in the northwestern part of the state, a region known historically and geographically as the Llano Estacado and ecologically part of the southern end of the High Plains.  According to a 2015 Census estimate, Lubbock had a population of 249,042, making it the 83rd-most populous city in the United States and the 11th most populous city in the state of Texas.  The city is the economic center of the Lubbock metropolitan area, which has a projected 2020 population of 327,424.  As the 11th largest city in Texas, Lubbock boasts a regional population base of 640,000 people.  Home to Texas Tech, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center and a fast-growing community college, Lubbock boasts more than 53,000 college students.  Lubbock is the only city in the nation with a comprehensive university, a health sciences center, an agriculture college and a law school in one location, making Texas Tech University the second largest contiguous university campus in the United States.
