Community Medical School fall 2009 under way

The fourth semester of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Community Medical School in Lubbock has officially begun.

Exciting topics this semester include influenza, body piercing and tattooing, macular degeneration and a presentation from Edmund D. Pellegrino, M.D., Professor Emeritus of Medicine and medical ethics and adjunct professor of philosophy at Georgetown University. Pellegrino is the chair of President Barack Obama's Council on Bioethics.

Community Medical School is a series of public lectures and demonstrations exploring transformative advances in medical knowledge and technology. Courses are open to all, regardless of background or experience -- from high school students to senior citizens.

Sessions run on consecutive Tuesday evenings  from 5:30 to 7 p.m. through Oct. 27 in Academic Classroom Building 100.
