First class at Paul L. Foster School of Medicine receives white coats
The inaugural class of 40 medical students at the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine recently marked their induction into the medical profession at a White Coat Ceremony in Downtown El Paso.
The Paul L. Foster School of Medicine matched its charter class in March. Between May and October 2008, the school received more than 2,500 applications. Of the students accepted, 36 are from Texas and nine are from El Paso.
The school is the first medical school in Texas in 30 years to seat a charter class. The school also is the only four-year medical school on the United States/Mexico border.

Future doctors received their first white coats at School of Medicine ceremony
LUBBOCK - The white coat is one of the most visible symbols of the health care provider, and medical students of the Class of 2013 took part in the White Coat Ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday (July 31) at the City Bank Auditorium and Coliseum, 1501 Mac Davis Lane.
The White Coat Ceremony stresses the importance of humanism and professionalism in the practice of medicine. The white coat has been the visual hallmark of physicians since the 19th century. This event is a rite of passage for first-year medical students as they receive their coats and take a Hippocratic oath affirming their commitment to the highest standards of ethics and patient care.
New medical students include 38 from the West Texas area, 33 from Texas Tech University, and others are from other top universities such as Brigham Young University, Boston University, University of California, Los Angeles and Pepperdine University.
