Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Nursing announced that Pat Allen, Ed.D., RN, associate professor and director of the Center for Innovation in Nursing Education, has been appointed to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board Nursing Advisory Committee.

This newly formed group has the potential for enormous impact upon nursing education over the next couple of years. The committee is expected to look at a number of important issues, such as patient safety.

The committee also will consider recommending standards for student retention efforts and for identifying Centers of Excellence to improve the sharing and transferability of best practices. Finally, the committee will work with this year's Nursing Innovation Grant awardees to develop evaluation protocols for grant projects and will help determine the focus of future grant competitions.

Allen was selected for her sustained and significant contributions to the field of nursing education; nursing education research; faculty development; academic leadership; and promotion of public policy that advances nursing education and collaborative educational, practice or community partnerships.
