EVENT: Former first lady Laura W. Bush and her mother, Jenna Welch, will be on hand to celebrate the opening of the JWWC, an institute that delivers expert medical care to women and their families. The event will be an open press remarks program.
In 2007, TTUHSC, Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center Hospital united to successfully create the Permian Basin presence of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health (LWBIWH). The Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved the designation of the JWWC of the LWBIWH in October 2008. In April, Texas Tech Physicians of Midland opened its doors and now houses the JWWC.
Under the direction of Leslie Chupp, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at TTUHSC Odessa, the JWWC provides patient care in the areas of women’s wellness, adolescent health, first-trimester pregnancy loss, chronic pelvic pain and minimally invasive hysterectomies.
Editor’s note: For security purposes, all media must have proper credentials and arrive no later than 10 a.m. Mrs. Bush will be making remarks, but will not be available for individual interviews. The media is invited to tour the Texas Tech Physicians of Midland facility after the program.
