A New Program at the School of Nursing

Bachelor of Science (BSN) to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

Published April 25, 2017

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Nursing is very excited to announce that we have been approved by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to offer the Bachelor of Science (BSN) to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree for our Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) tracks.

TTUHSC is the first public university in Texas to be approved to offer the BSN to DNP pathway for FNP and PMHNP tracks. What this means is that a nurse with a BSN degree can apply to the new program and move directly from the BSN degree to the DNP degree for the FNP and PMHNP tracks.

The BSN to DNP program will be a combination of face-to-face and on-line courses and supervised clinical experiences and will meet all educational standards established by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Essentials of Doctoral Education for Advanced Nursing Practice (2006) and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty’s (NONPF) Criteria for Evaluation of Nurse Practitioner Programs (2016), which are the standards for both FNP and PMHNP programs. Graduates will meet all qualifications to sit for national certification to become a Family Nurse Practitioner or a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner upon completion of the DNP degree.

The application for the BSN to DNP program for FNP and PMHNP will open on November 1, 2017 and close on February 15, 2018 for admission in the Fall 2018 semester.

Please watch this website for more information about the BSN to DNP Program for FNP and PMHNP tracks.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There will be no change in our current MSN track offerings. Enrollment in ALL current MSN tracks will continue including the MSN for FNP and PMHNP. We will also continue enrollments in the current Post-Masters DNP Program for Executive Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice.
