Elaine Emery, RN, MSN, CDE is a 1985 graduate of Methodist Hospital School of Nursing (now Covenant School of Nursing) in Lubbock. She graduated in 2003 from Lubbock Christian University with her BSN and in 2011 from Lubbock Christian University with her MSN. She has worked with Covenant Medical Center since 1985. She currently serves as an inpatient Certified Diabetes Educator and also oversees the Medical Surgical nursing policies and procedures. She enjoys the versatility of being a nurse and the patient/nursing staff education as well as the personal reward from helping make a difference in the lives she serves. She desires to move evidence into practice at the bedside. Elaine's research interests revolve around diabetic education. Current literature does not support use of traditional sliding scale insulin for hyperglycemia. Elaine has presented several oral and poster presentations with Sigma Theta Tau including "Should scheduled insulin be withheld preoperatively in patients with or without known history of diabetes?" She is currently waiting to hear if her article, "Systematic Analysis of Blood Glucose Tools for Advancing Evidence Based Care" will be published in the Journal of Clinical Nursing.
When Elaine isn't working or researching, she enjoys piecing quilts, photography, and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoys watching Parenthood (you will have to find another good show now that it's over) and Chicago Fire.
This is Elaine's 30th year as a nurse. She and her husband have been married 40 years. They have a son and a daughter, 4 grandchildren, 2 dogs, and 3 grand dogs. She serves on the local American Diabetes Association, the Covenant School of Nursing Alumni Board, and the Lubbock Christian University Alumni Board. Elaine loves being a nurse and considers nursing her "calling" and feels she is able to fulfill God's mission for her life.
Congratulations Elaine! Sigma Theta Tau-Iota Mu is proud of your accomplishments!
