TTUHSC Amarillo opens new location of Family Medicine Clinic
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTUHSC) School of Medicine at Amarillo recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new location of its Family and Community Medicine Clinic.
The 25,700-square-foot facility is located on the fifth floor addition in the School of Medicine/School of Allied Health Sciences building. All clinics, except the school's psychiatry clinic, are now in one location.
"This new clinic is an example of our institution's unwavering commitment to addressing the desperate shortage of family doctors in this region," said TTUHSC President John C. Baldwin, M.D.
Moving the Family and Community Medicine clinic into the School of Medicine/School of Allied Health Sciences building has made care more accessible for patients, Baldwin said.
Accessibility is important when many West Texas residents are without family physicians in their areas.
The American Academy of Family Physicians predicts the nation will need 39 percent more family doctors by 2020. Texas will need an additional 52 percent more family physicians, as the state has one of the biggest demands.
