The protein named "StAR", illustrated to the right, was discovered by Dr. Stocco and colleagues. This protein plays an essential role in the regulation of steroid hormone synthesis and when produced incorrectly results in a fatal disease known as Congenital Lipoid Adrenal Hyperplasia. Since this discovery, over 1000 publications have appeared in which StAR is a significant part of the study demonstrating the importance of this fundamental discovery. Dr. Stocco has received international acclaim for his contribution to this area of research.
