- Joseph Bishara
Joseph multimedia experience combines software production, documentary and film direction, TV commercial advertising, and an in-depth instructional technology. He has contributed to more than 70 educational multimedia titles, earning awards since 1992. He was the lead developer of the first state-funded multimedia secondary biology course in America. In 2001, he earned a Master of Education degree from Texas Tech.
Joseph's 1998 student film Simeon's Promise, won the WorldFest International Film Festival's Top Honors Bronze Prize. He has been invited to speak in Texas, Washington, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Missouri by state, regional and national groups.- Sid O'Bryant
Sid O'Bryant obtained his PhD from the University of Albany, State University of New York, which was followed by his internship at the University of Mississippi / Jackson VA Consortium and fellowship at the New Orleans VA Medical Center. He came to Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center from New Orleans in 2005. Sid came to TTUHSC with a background in research examining the links between culture and cognition, which then grew into studies of aging in rural West Texas and the Cochran County Aging Study. He currently holds the position of Director of Rural Health Research for the F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural and Community Health. He is also a licensed clinical neuropsychologist in the state of Texas and spends a large portion of his time conducting clinical translational research in Alzheimer's disease.- Cathy Hudson, BS, CCRC
Cathy holds a B.S. in Biology from Texas Tech University. She began her career with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in 1990. Her background includes 10 years of basic science research in the area of Nephrology, and 8 years experience in coordinating clinical trials and research involving human subjects. She has authored and co-authored numerous abstracts and manuscripts and her professional memberships include the Association of Clinical Research Professionals and the Society of Clinical Research Associates. Cathy is currently enrolled in the Certificate of Public Health program through the University of Texas School of Public Health.- Gordon Gong
Gordon Gong joined the Rural Health Research Group after working as a faculty member at Hereditary Cancer Institute and Osteoporosis Research Center, Creighton University since 1994. His most recent publications involve biostatistics, genetic epidemiology, and human population genetics.
After graduation in 1970 from Harbin Medical University, Harbin, China, Gordon worked as a surgeon and then a physician till 1979. Gordon obtained a Masters degree from Capital University of Biomedical Sciences, Beijing, China after training in cardiology research (1979-1982). He worked as a cardiologist and assistant professor in this University until 1984. He came to the US in 1986 and worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Department of Pharmacology, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas (1986-1988).- Erin Braddock
Originally from the Texas Gulf Coast, Erin graduated from Texas Tech University in the spring of 2004 with a B.A. in Psychology. As a former psychology major and sociology minor, her interests lie mainly in the effects of the environment on individuals and groups and the disparities caused by socioeconomic influences. During her undergraduate studies, Erin was a member of the Honors College and also participated as a mentor in the PEGASUS Program for First Generation College (FGC) students. Her future plans include entering a health-related masters program.- Kris Hargrave
Kris Hargrave joined the Rural Health Research Group after graduating from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Computer Science and minors in Electrical Engineering, Physics and Math. A native of Rural West Texas, he has always had an interest in computers and information management. As an undergraduate he held an internship as a database programmer, where he developed an interest in information management through databases. He also worked on a senior project in conjunction with the Institute and the prototype Student Health System.
The Rural Health Research Group is located in Suite 301A at the Texas Tech Plaza (the Bank of America building at 19th and University). The Rural Health Research Group is the research arm of the F. Marie Hall Institute for Rural and Community Health at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.
