The Office of Rural and Community Health offers several opportunities to assist students, who are interested in a career in rural Texas, with their health care education.
Rural Health Education Scholarship
The competitive scholarship offers financial assistance for students who demonstrate a commitment to practice their health profession in a rural area.
This academy is geared for rural students who plan to enter allied health, nursing and pharmacy degree programs.
The academy runs for two weeks during June. It offers review and training in several areas including written and verbal skills, communication and counseling, medical Spanish, basic physical assessment, math and statistics, anatomy and physiology, and biochemistry.
Student Rural Health Organization
The SRHO is an organization for students interested in rural issues in health care. The organization provides an informal forum for students to enhance their professional development and preparation for a rural career.
