Simulation Center at Abilene
The Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (TTHUSC) Simulation Center in Abilene, TX opened in its current location on January 13, 2013. The Simulation Center is the result of the Abilene community having a vision for a School of Nursing and innovative Simulation Center to meet the educational needs of future health care professionals.
The Simulation Center at the Abilene campus is a 14,394 square foot interprofessional, multimodality center servicing the School of Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Professions. Additionally, multiple community affiliates (agencies from practice and other academic institutions) access the resources at the center.
Simulation Center Features
- Skills lab including activities design to promote or to assist the development, efficiency and accuracy of technical and/or non-technical skills.
- Simulation based experiences designed to allow individuals to use their knowledge, skills and aptitudes while responding to realistic situations.
- Variety of simulators (manikins) that aid in creating a simulated environment for learners that mimic actual patient care settings.
- Training center that offers: Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Life Support training courses.
Not all universities have this facility that we have, the simulation center. I know that it has allowed me to enhance my knowledge. It's allowed me to put book knowledge into practical hands-on knowledge. It's also given me the confidence and understanding of what needs to be done at certain times.
